During the period of January to August 2023, international arrivals increased to 1,131,286 compared to 900,182 entered the country during the corresponding period in 2022 an increase of 231,104 visitors equivalent to 25.7 percent.

Tourism Sector continued to be among major sources of Tanzania’s foreign earnings in 2022. Earnings from tourism rose by 92.3 percent to USD 2,527.8 million, from USD 1,310.3 million registered in 2021. During the period, international arrivals increased to 1,454,920, from 922.692 reported in 2021. The achievement was attributed to the Government’s continued efforts to promote the country’s tourist attractions and the increase in demand for leisure and holidays.

During January to December 2022, tourist arrivals increased to 1,454,920, up from 922,692 recorded during the corresponding period in 2021. The noticeable increase in tourist arrivals (532,228), equivalent to 57.7 percent.

The information presenting trend of international visitors is among of selected short-term
indicators based on high-frequency data produced and disseminated by the National Bureau of Statistics in accordance with the Statistics Act Cap. 351. International visitors’ data is amongst short-term indicators used to evaluate economic performance.

On development, tourism continues to be an important source of Tanzania’s foreign earnings. In 2019, earnings from tourism increased by 7.9 percent to USD 2,604.5 million, from the level registered in 2018 following the increase in the number of international visitors to 1,527,230, from 1,505,702 reported in 2018. The achievement was partly contributed by the Government’s continued efforts to promote the country’s tourist attractions and the increase in demand for leisure and holidays globally.
