Tax Statistics Report 2016/17 presents important and comprehensive information on Tanzania revenue accrued through taxation. In this report, revenues from all major tax items are elaborated with their trends in growth and shares. This is the fifth edition of Tax Statistics Reports published by National Bureau of statistics. Data on revenue collected through Local Government Authorities (LGA) are also reported in detail and may suit users who wish to further investigate their performance.
Data used to compile the 2016 2017 Tax Statistics Report were obtained from Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Ministry of Finance and Planning (MoFP), the Presidents’ Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Some of the data used are provisional and may be updated. Beside 2016 - 2017, the report gives information of earlier years since 2005/06. The overall Government finance report is also provided with details in appendix.
In brief tax revenue grew by an average annual growth of 19.7 percent from 2006/07 to 2016/17 and the long-term average of tax-to-Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio from 2005/06 to 2016/17 was 11.9 percent.
